Things to Do in Halls Gap

Things to see and do in Halls Gap, Halls Gap highlights, Halls Gap activities and attractions, and points of interest in Halls Gap - the ALL NEW Jasons Halls Gap Things to Do Guide is your complete guide to sightseeing in Halls Gap.

  • The Grampians National Park Visitor Centre, located 2.5km south of town, with maps, brochures, static and audio visual displays on the park’s natural features. Open daily 9am-4.45pm.
  • Koori heritage, evident in the oven mounds, stone tools and rock art sites. With over 100 known sites, this area (traditionally known as Gariwerd) holds the majority of rock art sites in south eastern Australia. The Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Halls Gap provides information on culture, art and history, and much of the art can be seen at shelters such as Billimina, Bunjils, Manja and Ngamadjidj.
  • Bushwalking along the 200km of maintained walking trails. A popular walk is the 10km Wonderland Long Walk which takes in the Pinnacle Lookout, the Grand Canyon, Silent Street and Elephant's Hide, with more strenuous treks to Briggs Bluff, Mount Hollow and Mount William.
  • Abundant flora and fauna. The park has over one third of all the wildflowers native to Victoria, abundant birdlife, and native animals such as wallabies, koalas, wombats, emus, gliders, echidnas and platypi. The Bryan Swamp Wildlife Reserve in the south of the park is a roosting place for waterbirds, and Zumstein picnic area is noted for its tame kangaroos.
  • Adventure sports, including hang-gliding, caving, horse-riding, canoeing, and cycling. The Grampians are a rock-climber's and abseiler's paradise, with popular sites at the sandstone faces of Mount Hollow and Mount Rosea, and at nearby Bundalear and Mount Arapiles.
  • Some of Victoria's best inland fishing. Trout, redfin, and blackfish can be found at Lake Wartook, and there is also good fishing at Lake Bellfield and Rocklands Reservoir, Lake Fyans, and the McKenzie River.
  • Visits to the region's wineries, including the internationally famous Seppelt Great Western, Best's and Mount Langi Ghiran.
  • Rock formations and waterfalls. The Grampians have many outstanding geographical formations such as Mount Murdadjoog (Mount Abrupt), Mount Bagara, Mount Sturgeon, the Balconies (also known as the Jaws of Death), and the Chimney Pots. McKenzie Falls is one of Victoria's most spectacular waterfalls. Other waterfalls in the area are Beehive Falls (an easy walk from Roses Gap), Wannon Falls and Nigretta Falls, just west of the park.
