Located at the junction of the Midland and Maroondah Highways, Mansfield is one of the main gateways to
Victoria's High Country. The area around Mansfield was first settled as a pastoral run in 1839. The town was established during the gold mining era, and later became a centre for the timber and farming industries.
Today Mansfield is a progressive country town and a popular all-seasons destination, providing easy access to the snowfields of
Mount Buller Alpine Village and Mount Stirling Alpine Resort,
Lake Eildon, and the base for summer activities such as bushwalking, horse riding (Mansfield is at the heart of the biggest recreational horse riding area in
Australia), canoeing, camping and waterskiing.
