Things to Do in Phillip Island

Things to see and do in Phillip Island, Phillip Island highlights, Phillip Island activities and attractions, and points of interest in Phillip Island - the ALL NEW Jasons Phillip Island Things to Do Guide is your complete guide to sightseeing in Phillip Island.

  • The nightly Penguin Parade at Summerland Beach. Some 30,000 penguins live in the waters around Phillip Island and every night about 3000 come ashore and make their way to their burrows past the hundreds of spectators who converge on the floodlit beach. At the Penguin Parade Visitor Centre, tourists can see penguins nesting in simulated burrows.
  • Seal Rocks, off the western tip of Phillip Island, the home of the world's largest colony of fur seals. The Seal Rocks Sea Life Centre offers 180 degree panoramic views, displays and guided walks of the seabird habitat and intertidal rock shelf. Excellent restaurant and kiosk.
  • Opportunities to view wildlife in its natural habitat. The Phillip Island Nature Park has over 900 animals in a free range environment. At the Koala Conservation Centre, raised boardwalks give visitors a treetop view of the koalas. Western Port is a playground for dolphins and whales can also be spotted in Bass Strait.
  • Swimming and surfing at the 26 beaches around the island. The beaches on the northern coastline are more popular for swimming, with good surf (rough at times) along the south coast.
  • Great birdwatching, especially to see the thousands of shearwaters (muttonbirds) which migrate annually from Alaska. The colony is best viewed from Cape Woolamai or the birdwatching platform at Forrest Caves between November and April.
  • Other birdwatching sites are the mangrove boardwalk at Conservation Hill and Rhyll Inlet, and the bird hides at Swan Lake.
  • "link:"www.phillipislandcircuit.com.au","Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit",true}. Best known for the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, but also the venue for other motorcycle classics, V8 and historic car races. The Circuit Visitor Centre is open seven days a week and its memorabilia, video footage and relics trace the progress of motor racing in Australia.
  • Bushwalking for all levels of fitness. Walks include the 8km Cape Woolamai Walk, the 6km (one way) George Bass Coastal Walk from San Remo to Kilcunda, and the 5km walk around Churchill Island.
