Snowfields of Victoria

The vast, rugged expanse of the Victorian Alps is the southernmost section of the Great Dividing Range. This is Australia’s winter playground, with lively resorts and an extensive network of downhill runs and cross-country ski trails all less than 400km from Melbourne.

Falls Creek is regarded as the state’s most exclusive resort, with a European-style village atmosphere and slopes that cater for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, including some of the steepest and most challenging runs in Australia.

Mt Buller is the home of the Australian Institute of Winter Sport, an Australian Olympic training centre. Mt Buffalo and Mt Baw Baw are popular family destinations. Mt Hotham, the highest of Victoria’s resorts, has abundant natural snow and is known as the powder capital of Australia. It has its own airport which also caters for visitors to nearby Dinner Plain and Mt Feathertop. Lake Mountain and Mt Stirling offer cross-country skiing.
