Natural Wonders

  • Wave Rock is located 4km from Hyden (340km south-east of Perth), this overhanging rock wall rises 15m above the ground. Its fascinating formation is the result of 2,700 million years of geological and environmental sculpture.
  • The Pinnacles are located in Nambung National Park inland from Cervantes (245km north of Perth). Thousands of limestone pillars up to 5m high and between 10,000 and 30,000 years old resemble the remains of an ancient lost city. Accessed by a 5km walking track.
  • The Avon Valley is an hour’s drive north-east of Perth, this area surrounding the Avon River offers picturesque riverside settings, white water rafting and canoeing, hot air ballooning and historic townships including Western Australia’s oldest inland town, York
  • With over 100 species of birds and 24 native mammals, Dryandra Woodland is Western Australia’s most exciting wildlife destination. Less than two hours south-east of Perth, it has bushwalking trails, spotlighting tours and a range of accommodation and farmstays.

Historic Attractions & Towns

  • New Norcia was founded by Dom Rosendo Salvado in 1846 as an Aboriginal mission, this historic town 132km north of Perth is the home of Benedictine monks and one of Australia’s most important heritage sites. The beautiful stone buildings with their strong Spanish influence house a fascinating museum and art gallery.  The self-guided walking trail features many of New Norcia’s landmarks including the Abbey Church, Bishop Salvado statue, the 19th centurysundial, Bishop’s Well and the Beehouse.
  • Kalgoorlie-Boulder is the thriving hub of the goldfields, with wide streets and historic buildings from the goldrush days, museums, the Super Pit - Australia’s biggest open-cut mine, Hannans North Tourist Mine, great pubs and night life including the Bush Two Up School.
  • Coolgardie is a historic gold town 38km west of Kalgoorlie has settled into a peaceful mining retirement; visitors can glean the excitement of the gold era by strolling its wide streets using the 150 historical markers as guides to its turbulent history.
  • Reminders of the gold rush days are all that remain in this string of towns 50km north of Kalgoorlie - Ora Banda, Broad Arrow, Carbine, Kintore, Kununalling, Dunnsville and Bonnie Vale. An interesting day trip that should also include a visit to the gemstone area of Grant’s Patch and the Rowles Lagoon nature reserve.
