Kalgoorlie Travel Guide
Kalgoorlie accommodation, Kalgoorlie activities and attractions, Kalgoorlie maps, transportation to and around Kalgoorlie - the ALL NEW Jasons Kalgoorlie Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Kalgoorlie.
Famous for its fascinating gold rush history, heritage buildings and old ghost towns, Kalgoorlie is Western Australia’s largest goldfields town. Thousands of starry-eyed prospectors made the 700km journey east of Perth during the 1880s gold rush, and today both ‘Kal’ and Boulder are packed with grand old buildings, lively pubs and colourful characters still living the prospecting dream. Kalgoorlie remains an active mining town – its vast Super Pit Mine is as deep as Uluru, and produces 800,000 ounces of gold a year.
Kalgoorlie’s heart is Hannan Street (named after Irishman Paddy Hannan who struck gold in 1893), and here you’ll find the pubs, nightclubs, cafés and restaurants. With a pub on just about every corner, it’s hard to avoid a good night out in Kalgoorlie! Accommodation-wise, Kalgoorlie has plenty of choice with caravan parks, campsites, hostels, hotels and motels. Other attractions include the outback ghost town of Gwalia, and the town’s famous Boulder to Kalgoorlie Cup, held every year in September.
