Built on the banks of the Navua River on Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu, the small but bustling town of Navua lies east of Pacific Harbour and southwest of the Fijian capital of Suva. The Navua River is a prime destination for rafting adventures, and local operators offer a range of tours to explore the river’s lush rainforests, cascading waterfalls and traditional villages.
Navua district was an early producer of sugar but dairy and crop farming soon took over as sugar cane became established in the drier western region of Viti Levu. These days, Navua is largely a market town, and you will see local farmers bringing their produce and wares into town on the traditional bamboo bilibili rafts and local river taxis.
