Fringed by towering mountains and old copra plantations, the town of Savusavu overlooks beautiful Savusavu Bay in the south east of
Vanua Levu. The calm waters of Savusavu Bay are teeming with fish, and the sheltered anchorages attract yachts from around the world. Savusavu is one of Fiji’s ports of entry, and Vanua Levu's second largest town after
Labasa. The town is well equipped for visitors and cruising yachties with a range of
accommodation, two marinas, a supermarket, butchers, grocery and appliance stores, eateries, a library, post office, couriers and several banks. Savusavu’s busy open-air market is the place to go for fresh produce and there is a bus and taxi stand in the centre of town.
Savusavu Tourism Association is located at the
Lomalagi Resort.
Savusavu offers visitors a wide range of
activities, including scuba diving, adventure sailing trips, sport fishing, cultural tours and village visits, snorkelling, kayaking, mountain biking and visits to the local pearl farm. Just a short walk up the hill behind the supermarket are Savusavu’s hot springs (too hot for bathing!), while heading west down Main Street is the Planter’s Club, a favourite haunt for locals and visitors alike. Savusavu Brewery makes a selection of homegrown organic brews that can be bought at the bars around Savusavu. The Copra Shed and the Waterfront on Savusavu’s main street provide the evening’s entertainment.
