Singh used to practice on the greens of his native Fiji, but these days, Fiji’s golf courses have really come of age. You’ll find everything from challenging championship fairways to 9 hole courses and small ‘pitch and putts’ ideal for a spot of family fun. A good place to begin your golfing adventures is the main island of Viti Levu, where there are several championship golf courses. Pacific Harbour has Fiji's most recent 18-hole championship golf course, which is part of The Pearl South Pacific Resort. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, the course has well-bunkered fairways and golfers can Relaxing Off the Green © SPTOtest their skills on a couple of par fives and fours. Waterways, mountains and lush vegetation surround the course, providing a stunning tropical setting.

Just out of Nadi near Denarau Island, you can tee off at Denarau Golf & Raquet Club's 18-hole championship golf course – one of the Pacific’s best known golfing venues. Toberua Island © Toberua Island RetreatSet amid coconut palms and surrounded by stunning views of the Pacific ocean, this course was designed by Japan’s Pannya Planning. There are some adventurous water hazards to keep you challenged, along with practice facilities and a well-stocked pro shop. Nearby, the 18 hole Nadi Airport Club is definitely one of Fiji's toughest courses – and it also has some of the best views on the island.

Hire your clubs onsite and enjoy the long, flat fairways. Other 18 hole courses open to the public include the Lautoka Golf Club, Vatukoula Golf Club, Penang Golf Club (Rakiraki) and Labasa Golf Club. If you’re after a more leisurely game or just some fun with the family, then The Warwick Fiji Resort Spa has a family friendly mini golf course that makes for a great day out. Heading offshore to Vanua Levu’s southern coast, Koru Sun Resort’s 9 hole golf course is set in an old coconut plantation right beside the ocean. The resort has its own marina and beachfront and there are fishing and diving adventures when you’ve finished on the green.

Beautiful Taveuni Island  – known as Fiji’s Garden Island – has an equally picturesque links. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, this nine-hole course at Taveuni Estates hugs a pristine stretch of the island’s coastline. Off the fairways, you can tackle everything from sailing, snorkelling and diving to birdwatching and hiking.

For something just that little bit different, you can head across to Toberua Island where Toberua Pitch and Putt offers a nine hole course on its beautiful sandy beach – but only at low tide!

New Golfing Retreat
Due to open this year in Fiji is the new Natadola Golf Hotel. Part of the Natadola Marine Resort, this 18-hole championship course is designed by golfing champ Vija Singh. The stunning course will combine lush tropical landscaping and sweeping ocean views with state-of-the-art golfing facilities. Off the fairways, you can try your hand at a range of marine sports including scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing and windsurfing.
