City Tour
Either by bus or tourist train, a city tour is a good way to get an idea of things to do and places to visit during your stay. Tour options include historic Noumea and the Nouville penal colony buildings.
Le Petit Train
This handy miniature train completes a circuit from Anse Vata to the city centre, dropping passengers at some of the main sights around town.
New Caledonia National Aquarium
Displays of tropical fish, sea snakes, sharks, eels, live fluorescent coral and nautilus bring the beauty of the reef into the city. Route de L'Aquarium. Closed Mondays.
Tjibaou Cultural Centre
Famous for its highly original architecture, the centre is a major venue for music, theatre, dance and exhibitions. Rue des Accords de Matignon, Tina.
Museum of Maritime History
Take an exciting voyage through 3000 years of maritime history and dsicover relics from the 40 ships wrecks on Noumea's reef.

Noumea has a number of interesting museums to explore, which include the
City of Noumea Museum
, the Museum of New Caledonia, the Geological Museum and the Maritime History Museum. The
Museum of New Caledonia
(corner Avenue Maréchal Foch and Rue Eugène-Porcheron) showcases ancient Melanesian artefacts and Kanak arts.
Shopping
Check out the city's chic stores and boutiques, or head by the bustling Municpal Market for delicious fresh local produce and seafood. The market is open daily from 5am-11am at Baie de La Moselle and closes the third Monday of each month.
Beaches &
Watersports
There are good beaches at Anse Vata, Pointe Magnin and Baie des Citrons. Relax with a good book, try windsurfing or kayaking or discover the lagoon's superb snorkelling and diving.
Boat Charters
Enjoy Noumea's beautiful lagoon from the water on a cruise, sailing or fishing charter.
The Michel Corbasson Zoological and Forest Park
(Park Forestier)
See New Caledonia’s flightless national symbol bird, the cagou, plus the horned parakeet, fruit bats and other birds. The forest park offers fantastic walks, with views over the lagoon and the island's southern coast.
Place des Cocotiers
Enjoy a walk in this garden square, shaded by flame trees. You'll find some interesting shops and cafés on the many streets surrounding the square.
Anse Vata
This popular tourist centre is connected to Noumea by a picturesque coastal route that hugs the city's three large bays - Baie de l'Orphelinat, Baie des Citrons and Anse Vata Bay. Anse Vata is a popular spot for water activities including swimming, windsurfing, sailing and kayaking.
Mount Ouen Toro
At the southern tip of the Noumea peninsula, the Ouen Toro (128 m) offers stunning views over Nouméa. The track to the top of Ouen Toro is a stone's throw from Anse Vata beach.

Pierre Vernier Walk
Fringed with coconut trees, this leisurely walk along St Marie Bay is a popular meeting point for a family walk or a mountain bike ride.
Blue River Provincial Park
This 9000 hectare plant and wildlife reserve in the
Southern Province
is a bushwalker’s paradise with picnic and camping spots, river swimming and walking tracks. Visitors must make a reservation with the Noumea and Southern Province Tourist Office not later than 24 hours prior to their visit.
