There are various bushwalks you can do in New Caledonia to explore the beautiful surroundings and discover the native flora and fauna. La Riviere Bleue Provincial Park (The Blue River Provincial Park) is a bushwalker’s paradise, extending over 9000 hectares of wild country rich in native flora and fauna. Walking tracks are well marked and reservations must be made with the Noumea and Southern Province Tourist Office 24 hours before you intend to visit.
The Michel Corbasson Zoological and Forest Park (Parc Forestier) is another good spot for walkers, with beautiful views over the lagoon and southern coast of the Mainland. The park is home to many endemic birds.
A pleasant stroll in Noumea is the Pierre Vernier Walk, a palm-fringed promenade that winds alongside St Marie Bay.
Further afield, Mont Dore (770m), 25km from Noumea, offers walking tracks, stunning views and a natural spring. Mount Dore is known as the Golden Mountain due to its golden hue at sunset.
