  • Wineries
    There are several vineyards near Alexandra, including the award-winning Blackridge Vineyard & Winery – the southernmost in the world. The Central Otago Vineyards leaflet (available at the Visitor Information Centre) has details of local vineyards.
  • Alexandra Blossom Festival
    Held in September each year, the festival is a major drawcard for visitors who come to view the floral floats and flower displays.
  • Mountain biking
    There are several mountain biking tracks within easy distance of the town, including the Roxburgh Gorge track (which weather conditions can make unsafe), the Dunstan Trail (a rugged mountain road which follows the trail of early gold prospectors), the Otago Central Rail Trail, the Lower Manorburn Dam and the Earnscleugh Block.   • Alexandra Historical Museum
    A comprehensive collection of goldmining relics from the town's past.
  • The Old Courthouse
    Located opposite the monument, this building opened in 1879 and is one of the oldest stone buildings in Alexandra. An audio tape re-enacts the goldfield battles.
  • The Clock on the Hill
    A giant electric clock, 11 metres in diameter, fastened to the rockface with vertical steel supports. The second-largest clock in the world, it is illuminated by 1500 electric bulbs and at night the time can be read up to 8 kilometres away.
  • Alexandra Ice Rink
    During the winter skating, ice hockey and curling are catered for at this Olympic-sized artificial ice rink.
  • Leaning Rock
    Located in the Cromwell Gorge, 21 kilometres from Alexandra, this is the largest of a group of giant rock shafts on the summit of the Dunstan Range. Walkers who make the 8 hour return trip to the summit (1647m) are rewarded with spectacular views of Central Otago. There is no public access and permission must be asked of the owner.   • Manorburn Dam
    Located 10 minutes from town by car, the dam provides the largest area of skateable black ice in the Southern Hemisphere when it freezes.
  • Butchers Dam
    This nearby dam offers windsurfing, sailing and canoeing. There are small to medium-sized brown trout for fishing.
  • The Old Bridge
    Opened in 1882, the bridge has piers constructed of local schist stone.
