Arrowtown Travel Guide

Arrowtown is a beautifully restored early goldmining settlement and is famous for its gracious trees and its collection of 19th-century miners cottages. In autumn, Arrowtown takes on a brilliant gold tone as the many sycamores and oaks, planted along the main avenue in 1867, prepare to drop their leaves. You can find out about the area's local history and colourful goldmining years at the award-winning Lakes District Museum, or visit the historic Chinese Mining Village near Bush Creek. 

There are some good walks in the hills surrounding Arrowtown, or stroll down the banks of the Arrow River and take in the stunning scenery. Arrowtown is handy to the thriving wineries of Central Otago, or try some of adventure activities on offer, including bungy jumping, jetboating, golfing, rafting, canyoning, mountain biking, four wheel drive safaris and horse trekking.
