Ski & Board Craigieburn

The ups are good and the downs are even better at Craigieburn Valley Ski Area - and there are amazing mountain vistas as well! Located deep in the Craigieburn Range, adjacent to
Broken River ski area, Craigieburn has an awesome reputation for its ski and snow board challenges. If you are an advanced or expert rider, then Craigieburn will be your holy grail. There are challenging narrow chutes and wide open powder bowls, including the infamous 600m vertical descent of Middle Basin. (Craigieburn is not recommended for beginners and there are no beginner slopes.)
Overall, there is 2,220 acres of off-piste, inbound terrain and plenty of off-piste backcountry opportunities. The Craigieburn day pass allows you to ski Allans Basin to Broken River. Craigieburn is situated a 1.5hr drive from Christchurch on Highway 73. The 6km access road winds gently up through picturesque beech forest and is accessible for all motor vehicles (except camper vans - these can be parked at the base of the access road). All vehicles must carry chains. Accommodation lodges are located at the base of the ski area.
