• Arthur's Pass National Park
  This magnificent alpine terrain encompasses much of New Zealand's unique alpine flora, including southern rata trees. Day walks offer superb views of the area's snowcapped peaks, including Mt Murchison, the park's highest mountain.
• Walks
  Short walks are detailed in a leaflet at the Department of Conservation office in the village. These include the Devil's Punch Bowl (2km), which leads up to a 131m waterfall, and the Bridal Veil Nature Walk (2.5km). A four hour return walk leads to Temple Basin, offering wonderful views of the mountains. Longer hikes include the Harman Pass and Harpers Pass tracks. These require previous hiking experience and special care at all times.
• Climbing
  There is good rock climbing at the Temple and Speight rockfaces on Mount Rolleston.
• Skiing
  In the winter, the nearby Temple Basin Ski Area offers good skiing and snow boarding, and floodlit skiing at night. There is a 45 minute walk from the carpark to the lift area.
