Auckland choral people have taken the initiative to establish an annual schools choral competition culminating, in 2010 with a concert on Saturday August 31.
We invite northern hemisphere and Australian school choirs to come to Auckland to attend school with our choristers in a program that allows the visitors to briefly "live" in the NZ school, to rehearse and to perform with their NZ peers.
The choirs will experience formal and informal Maori choral music during their time with an Auckland choir. We have a workshop day of Maori Choral Music on Friday 30 July; it’s likely to be the best presentation on this subject for this audience available in the world.
The two day competition aims at enhancing each choir's performance, rather than ranking what will be an eclectic group, although their relative achievements will be acknowledged. Each choir will also receive immediate expert live feedback and a subsequent written report on their performance from our adjudicators.
Then we’ll tour and sing around the beautiful South Island high country, staying near Queenstown, and finish with a concert in Christchurch Cathedral.
