  • Waterfront Sculpture Walk
Beginning at Britomart in downtown Auckland, this short trail takes in seven sculptures including Auckland’s iconic Maori Warrior, and Eric Orr’s Fire Window at Viaduct Harbour. Contact Auckland City Council, phone 379 2020.

  • Tamaki Drive
Heading east from the city, this waterfront road is a great place to take a stroll, with fine views of Auckland's scenic harbour. Starting from Quay Street in the inner city, it takes roughly 45 minutes to reach the seaside village of Mission Bay, with its seaview cafes and sandy swimming beach.
  • Bastion Point Walk
Begin at the Selwyn Domain in Mission Bay. Head towards the city, along the waterfront to Hapimana Street. Follow the road up to the Savage Memorial, with its sunken gardens and cliff-top harbour views. Follow the walking track back down the hill towards Mission Bay.
  • Coast to Coast Walkway (4-6hrs, 16km)
A walk across Auckland's narrow isthmus taking in volcanoes, ocean views, ancient pa sites, kauri villas, parks, gardens and rock walls. The city starting point is Viaduct Harbour (follow the yellow markers). A self-guide brochure is available from Auckland City Council.
  • Sri Chinmoy Peace Mile
A mile-long run/walk around the beautiful grounds of Auckland Domain. Starting at the sign adjacent to the grandstand, it travels via Grandstand Road South, Football Road, the Crescent and Kiosk Road, and finishes at Grandstand Road North.
  • Maungakiekie (One Tree Hill)
This ancient Maori pa (fortified village) site in the rolling grounds of Cornwall Park can be accessed from Greenlane Road. The walk up the summit shows evidence of Maori-made terraces, and there are dramatic 360º views of the city and its two harbours from the top. Guided walks take place over summer, phone Cornwall Park Information Centre on 630 8485 or email huialodge@xtra.co.nz
  • Maungawhau (Mt Eden) Summit
