Proms Pleasures from the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra
Taking its cue from the high-spirited revelry of London's Royal Albert Hall, New Zealand's Aotea Centre will come alive with waving Union Jacks, streamers, and full-throated singing as the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra presents the return of the Last Night of the Proms, presented by Qantas.
The APO, known widely as one of the finest
orchestras in Australasia, invites audiences to forget the usual decorum of the concert hall and take part in the celebration of the Best of British.
This rambunctious and highly popular evening which features orchestral masterpieces from Elgar, Britten and Walton alongside gems from the not-so-classical works of Gilbert & Sullivan and Andrew Lloyd-Webber, is a highlight for music
lovers of every stripe.
As per tradition, audiences are encouraged to raise their voices to the familiar strains of Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem, and Rule, Brittania!
This year's concert is scheduled on Saturday, the 28th of November, and features the blazing showmanship of New Zealand's favourite mezzo-
soprano, Helen Medlyn, under the baton of English conductor Anthony Inglis, whose number of performances at the Royal Albert Hall stands unmatched.
