The Western Bay of Plenty faces the north-east to the sea, the white sand beaches offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. To the west is the rugged bush of the Kaimai Ranges, where you can explore the native bush on the hiking trails. The Western Bay of Plenty enjoys a diverse character, from the bustling shops and cafés of Tauranga City, through small country towns through to the superb beaches at Pukahina, Maketu, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa and Waihi Beach.
Visitors can check out the colourful historic murals at Katikati, relax in the hot springs at Athenree, explore the goldmining history at Waihi, or catch the waves at Mount Manuganui. Inland, you can find out all about kiwifruit at Te Puke, New Zealand’s Kiwifruit Capital, or opt for a real Kiwi experience and try a wild deer or pig-hunting trip.
