Internationally renowned for its award-winning wineries,
Marlborough is famous for its fresh, floral sauvignon blancs. Blenheim is a perfect base for visitors wanting to sample the local vintage, or perhaps enjoy a relaxing lunch or dinner at one of the many vineyard restaurants. Most
wineries are open daily with tastings and cellar-door sales, and can ship overseas if required.
The major highlight of Blenheim's calendar is the annual Wine Marlborough Festival on the second Saturday in February. Some 10,000 visitors flock to town to sample an extensive selection of local wines and food, and to enjoy the live music and entertainment. The week prior to the festival, the town springs to life with a series of exhibitions, arts and crafts demonstrations, markets and special events.
Wineries to visit within easy reach of town include Domaine Georges Michel,
Allan Scott and
Highfields, which all offer meals.
