Just a 25 minute drive south of
Westport, and known for being the site of a huge goldrush in the 1860's, Charleston is now well-known for its caving experiences and rockclimbing opportunities - there are over 190 climbs just waiting to be attacked.
Two walks begin from the Charleston Recreation Reserve - the Flagstaff Walk and the Lookout Walk. The beachfront area at Constance Bay is pleasant and a nice spot for swimming and picnics.
Head to Mitchells Gully Gold Mine for a true West Coast goldmining experience. There are many tunnels to be explored and you can check some of them out on the old ore tram. There are also bushwalks, drop shafts, native orchds, fossils and old diggings waiting to be explored.
