  • Driving Creek Pottery and Railway
    An hour-long ride on the country's only narrow-gauge mountain railway, which travels through regenerating kauri forest. Visitors can also see a working pottery and brickworks, and there is a craft shop, native plants and a bookshop on the premises. Trains daily at 10am and 2pm, with additional trips at 12 noon and 4pm during summer.
  • Coromandel Gold Stamper Battery
    The first Government Assay Stamper Battery commissioned in New Zealand and still fully operational, this 100-year-old battery contains the country's largest working waterwheel. Visitors can also pan for gold.
  • Walks
    Dave's Gold Country Treks offers 2hr guided walks through regenerating bush to historic gold workings, with gold panning opportunities. The Coastal Walkway Tour The Coastal Walkway Tour offers dramatic views of the coastline traversing Fletcher Bay and Stony Bay (3-4hrs). The track begins at Fletcher Bay, north of Coromandel town.
  • Castle Rock
    The core of an old volcano providing panoramic views. The walk to the summit takes about 2hrs return and requires suitable footwear. The nearby Castle Rock Winery,  features fruit and vegetable wines made from organically grown produce.
  • 309 Kauri Grove
    A group of ancient protected kauri trees reached via a 10min stroll through native bush.
  • Waiau Falls
    A 15min walk to a beautiful bush glade where the Waiau Falls crash over a rock face and into the pool below.
  • Coromandel Craft Trail
    A guide to Coromandel's craftspeople featuring workshops, shops and galleries, with the opportunity to view 24 artists at work in their studios. Weta Design Store also stocks contemporary artworks and Maori crafts.
  • Fishing
    Anglers Lodge, Coromandel Fish and Dive and Coromandel Charters operate fishing charters and tours in the waters around Coromandel.
  • Gardens
    Waiau Waterworks displays whimsical inventions worked by water in a beautiful garden setting. There are some lovely picnic spots and a shop featuring original garden sculptures. Waitati Gardens (Buffalo Road) has a huge range of unusual plants, complemented by natives. Taraire Grove Gardens has native trees and ferns in a park-like setting with three water lakes.
  • School Of Mines Museum
    A mining museum featuring working models of quartz-crushing machinery and goldmining relics.
  • Port Jackson & Cape Colville
    The Coromandel's far northern end is an hour's drive from the town, and known for its isolated beaches, rustic camping and the peninsula's highest peak, Mt Moehau (892). Cape Colville Farm Park (2400ha) protects this unspoilt area.
  • Mt Moehau
    A full day hike to the summit of Mt Moehau and back. Hikers are not permitted to walk on the summit, which is sacred to local Maori.
  • Horse Treks
