1 - 31 October, Women's Work Art Exhibition, Gisborne
Held in the former mens-only Poverty Bay Club, the theme for this month's inaugural Women's Art exhibition is 'Women only'. Touted as the biggest women only art exhibition in the country, the expo has more than 120 female artists showing 250 art works and award categories include  paint, sculpture, mixed media and Maori art.

12 October, Te Unga Mai - the arrival
Te Unga Mai acknowledges our voyaging traditions and commemorates the first formal meeting between the Tangata Whenua of Turanganui a Kiwa and Lieutenant James Cook and his Endeavour crew. Two nostalgic excursions will  take place from Poverty Bay Club. One aboard New Zealand's only WA165 to Young Nicks Head and the other aboard the restored pilot boat MV Takitimu. Both trips will feature tales from times gone by local historians.

17 - 18 October, Poverty Bay Agricultural & Pastoral Show, Gisborne
The region displays its best agricultural and pastoral produce.

25 October, Gwaloop Cycle Challenge
The gruelling Gwaloop Cycle Challenge (as famous for its scenery as its physical challenge) is extended this year to include a Mini Loop Race for over 13 year olds and a Kids Loop Race for those 13 and under.

28 December, Annual Opotiki Rodeo
This annual event features spectacular horse and western type events and is commended by the competing cowboys & girls to be one of the best in New Zealand. There are amusements, food and drink stands, and clothing and tack (saddlery), available for purchase. Great entertainment for all ages.
