Things to Do in Fairlie

• Aoraki/Mount Cook
  New Zealand's highest peak at 3754m is known as Aoraki (cloud piercer) by Maori. The three peaks on the mountain's ridge are best seen from the upper reaches of Hooker Glacier, but ski planes also land on the Tasman Glacier allowing good views.
• Mount Cook National Park
  An alpine region of ice, snow, rock, subalpine scrub, tussock and riverbed. More than one third of the park is permanent snow and glacier ice, with the mountains forming some 100 million years ago. The park contains 28 peaks which exceed 3000m. Skiing is possible on the Ball and Tasman Glaciers.
• Fox Peak & Mount Dobson Ski Areas
  Both located within a 40min drive of Fairlie, these skifields offer ski hire and a ski school.
• Opihi Gorge
  This 1.5hr circle drive from Fairlie provides spectacular views of the gorge.
• Mackenzie Country
  A wild tract of tussock-covered hill country, stretching to the foothills of the Southern Alps. The region's lakes and rivers offer excellent fishing. Local operators include Back Country Trout and Mount Cook Fishing Safaris.
• Vintage Machinery Museum
  A small museum containing tractors, a model aeroplane display, old cameras and photographs, west of Fairlie.
• Mabel Binney Cottage
  A heritage building in original condition, located west of Fairlie.
