Foxton Travel Guide

Foxton accommodation, Foxton activities and attractions, Foxton maps, transportation to and around Foxton - the ALL NEW Jasons Foxton Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Foxton.

Sitting on a coastal plain southwest of Palmerston North, Foxton is part of the Horowhenua district, known for its mild climate and market gardens. Foxton was once New Zealand's flax-stripping capital and has the country's only working flax-stripping museum, as well as a full-size working windmill. History buffs can also visit the Gallery of Dolls, with its collection of antique and modern dolls, and the Trolley Bus Museum, which houses a 1953 London bus.

The Foxton River offers cruises and there is superb birdwatching at Foxton estuary. Up to 38 species of migratory birds visit the area, including shearwaters, petrels, grey teals, sandpipers, godwits, terns and wrybills. Just 5km from the township lie the white sands of Foxton Beach, a popular spot for holiday makers. The beach has good swimming, fishing, surfing and 4WD tracks, and there is good hiking along the coast and in the nearby Tararua ranges.
