Garston Travel Guide

Garston accommodation, Garston activities and attractions, Garston maps, transportation to and around Garston - the ALL NEW Jasons Garston Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Garston.

Garston prides itself on being New Zealand's most inland town and for being directly across from the Mataura river - a great fishing spot full of brown trout. Beautiful mountains - the Eyre Mountains (1968m) to the west, the Slate Range (942m) and the Hector Mountains (1675m) to the east - rise up all around the town leaving it in a sheltered valley.

The population of this small rural town stands at only around 100 people who survive on sheep, cattle and deer farming. Although the town is small, it lies in an area of majestic beauty, one hour from the winter playground of Queenstown, skifields, Lake Wakatipu and is on route to Milford Sound. In the Garston area you can enjoy farm touring, four-wheel driving and trekking.
