Things to Do in Gore

• Fishing
  The brown trout fishery is internationally recognised as one of the world's best. There are many excellent fishing rivers in the area, including Otamita, Pomahaka, Waiphai, Waimea and Mataura. Fishing options range from dry fly to wilderness and heli-fishing. Fishing season is September to April, and a licence can be bought from the visitor centre. An Anglers' Access leaflet is also available at the centre.
• Hokonui Moonshine Museum
  Located within the Hokonui Heritage Centre, the museum offers a fascinating look at the social history of the area's illicit moonshine trade.
• Gore Historic Museum
  Also located in the Hokonui Heritage Centre, the museum houses displays and memorabilia connected to the region's colonial past.
• Hokonui Pioneer Park
  A village-type museum with pioneer buildings and vintage farm machinery from the mid-19th century.
• Eastern Southland Museum & Gallery
  Located on Hokonui Drive, the museum has a permanent art collection along with exhibitions by national and international artists.
• Croydon Aircraft Company
  A Mandeville-based company specialising in restoring vintage aircraft. The company offers visitors a chance to fly in a vintage Tiger Moth.
• Gore Air Force Museum
  Set up as a World War II airforce base, the museum is open weekends, and weekdays by appointment.
