Things to Do in Haast

• Outdoor Activities
  The many adventure options include kayaking, fishing, diving for crayfish and scenic flights. Haast River Safari and Waiatoto River Jetboat Safari offer jetboating on the Waiatoto River - one of the best river trips in the country.
• Jackson Bay
  This remote fishing village has spectacular views of the Southern Alps, as well as penguin colonies near Monro Beach. There are some good walks as well, including Smoothwater Bay (3hrs), and a short 15 minute walk to Jackson Viewpoint, and a longer hike to Stafford Bay.
• Cascade River Valley
  This beautiful wilderness region can be reached via track taking in Lake Ellery, Martyr Saddle and the dramatic Red Hills. Turn onto the gravel road on the south side of the Arawata Bridge to reach the start of the track at Lake Ellery.
• Haast Pass
  This beautiful alpine pass climbs to 562m as it crosses Mount Aspiring National Park through snow country covered by scrub and tussock. There are some scenic waterfalls along the road to Wanaka.
