Things to Do in Hawera

• Golf
  Greens in the area include the Te Ngutu Golf Club, one of South Taranaki's most picturesque 18-hole courses, and the Hawera Golf Club.
• Watersports
  Dam dropping (which involves sliding down a dam on a board) and white-water sledging are available on the nearby Waingongoro River.
• Turuturu Mokai Pa and Historic Reserve
  A 10ha reserve located on the banks of the Tawhiti Stream, 2km north of Hawera. It contains an ancient pa - the earthworks still preserved - which was once an important Maori stronghold in South Taranaki.
• Egmont National Park
  A 33,534ha park dominated by the volcanic cone of Mount Taranaki/Egmont, and offering more than 140km of walking tracks. The climb to the summit takes about 4-4.5hr in good conditions. Skiing is available during winter.
• Tawhiti Museum
  A multi award-winning museum with life-size models depicting the region's history.
• Tawhiti Bush Railway
  A steam train operating on the first Sunday of each month and every Sunday during school holidays. Located on Ohangai Road, 4km from town.
• Dairyland Visitor Centre
  An insight into the operation of the Kiwi Co-operative Dairy Company, with more than twenty audio visual and interactive displays, and a licensed café on site.
• King Edward Park
  A 4ha reserve with gardens and lakes, an observatory, a miniature Chinese garden and an Olympic-size heated swimming pool.
• Ohawe Beach
  A popular beach resort located 8km west of Hawera.
• Elvis Presley Memorial Room
  A collection of more than 2000 records and souvenirs dedicated to the King.
• The Water Tower
  The town's landmark tower, built in 1913.
