Helensville is a mere 30-40 minute drive from
New Zealand's largest city
Auckland, and is gaining popularity for its antique and collectables shops, artists and the wonderful country village atmosphere. With no traffic lights or traffic jams, Helensville is very much a family town, often with several generations living in or around the town. There are two museums and a growing number of garden visits and art studio's to visit. There are two golf courses and a number of other golf courses on the drive out such as
Muriwai and Huapai.
There are two pubs - the restored Grand Hotel at the north end and another one in the middle of the town. The Parakai Tavern is also 5mins away at Parakai. There are also a number of cafes offering real coffee.
Helensville provides easy access to the Kaipara Harbour, Muriwai Beach and Woodhill Forest, so it is no wonder that the region is home to many people interested in horse activities, fishing, mountain biking, hiking and walking. Helensville is very close to the small town of
Parakai - famous for its hot thermal pools.
Aquatic Park is the largest of the public pools available.
To get to Helensville, head up the North Western Motorway from Auckland and take Highway 16 passing through the towns of
Kumeu, Huapai, and Waimauku. This is also the way to Muriwai beach (turn left at Waimauku) home of the gannet colony. Heading north from Helensville you would come to
Kaukapakapa.
