Things to Do in Herekino

• Kaitaia
  Kaitaia is the visitor hub of the Far North and the region's largest commercial centre. Numerous tours are available from the town. It has a rich history and cultural diversity which includes Maori and Dalmatian communities.
• Sullivan's Nocturnal Park
  Located at Fairburn, the park features kiwi, a glowworm cave and a stream with short-fin eels. Bushwalks and night tours are offered.
• Far North Regional Museum
  The region's museum contains a giant moa skeleton as well as photos and relics from the kauri industry and early shipwrecks.
• Ahipara
  Just north of Herekino, Ahipara has a magnificent beach and a surfside golf course with stunning scenery.
• Cape Reinga
  There are magnificent sea views from this iconic landmark. Its historic lighthouse sits perched high above the meeting point of the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Seas.
• Ninety Mile Beach
  This wild stretch of sand and surf is a popular with tour buses, which drive visitors along the sand en route to Cape Reinga. The beach is actually about 100km (64 miles).
• Herekino Forest trek
  Discover 15km of forest trails and spot rare species including the brown kiwi, long tailed bat and kauri snail.
