Southland is the most southern region of New Zealand and boasts some of the most distinctive landscapes in the country, ranging from its stunning scenery of rugged fiords, mountains and sweeping coastlines to a wealth of flora and fauna.
Southland has one of the most spectacular touring routes - the Southern Scenic Route. This road forms a link from the world-renowned Milford Sound, through New Zealand's southernmost city, Invercargill, and the Edinburgh of the south, Dunedin.
Along the Southern Scenic Route is the stunning Catlins Coast. Wildlife, waterfalls and ancient fossilized forest are all stopover points in this untouched region.
Some of the best brown trout fishing in the world can also be experienced on the Mataura River on the outskirts of Gore.
The New Zealand icon, the kiwi, is just one of the many native birds that can be spotted in their natural habitat on Stewart Island.
Southland - it truly does revive the spirit.
