Things to Do in Kaikohe

• Pioneer Village
  The town's pioneer village contains a cottage, jail, courthouse, railway, fire station, sawmill, general store, schoool and blacksmith's shop.
• Ngawha Hot Springs
  Just 6km from the town, the hot springs are ideal for a relaxing soak after a day's travelling.
• Battle Sites
  The town was a scene of bloody battles during the Northland Land Wars. A small church at Ohaeawai, 9km north-east of Kaikohe, marks the site of a battle in 1845 between local Maori (led by Maori warrior Hone Heke), and British troops, in which the British were defeated. Hone Heke settled in Kaikohe and died there in 1850.
• Kaikohe Hill
  There is a pleasant picnic area with panoramic views of the local countryside and across the Hokianga Harbour.
