Lake Hawea Travel Guide
Lake Hawea accommodation, Lake Hawea activities and attractions, Lake Hawea maps, transportation to and around Lake Hawea - the ALL NEW Jasons Lake Hawea Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Lake Hawea.
Lake Hawea is the place to be to enjoy the stunning beauty of the
Southern Lakes area – peacefully. Here, you are away from the bustling tourist crowds that converge on
Queenstown and
Wanaka, but not so far away that you can’t enjoy the fun of these areas. Lake Hawea is the smallest and most northern of the southern alpine lakes. The small town of Lake Hawea lies on the southern shores, and has a population of only 300 people. It actually sits slightly above the lake, meaning it has fabulous views.

Lake Hawea is one of New Zealand’s most stunning lakes and is a good spot to come to, year round. The summers here are long and hot – this is a great time to enjoy the lake and make the most of the activities it offers. During the winter, snow is a permanent feature on the tips of the mountains that surround the town and at times it stretches the whole way down to the lake edge.
