Things to Do in Lyttelton

• Watersports
  The calm harbour is an aqua playground.  Try waterskiing, kayaking, swimming, sailing, fishing, windsurfing or boating.
• Adventure
  The surrounding hills provide for many adventure activities such as hang-gliding and mountain biking.
• Visiting the islands
  Three islands lie in Lyttelton Harbour. Ripapa Island lies close to the shore and was originally a Maori pa until it became home to Fort Jervois in 1860. It was then transformed to hold prisoners of war. Today, tours to the island show this history.   Quail Island, named after the now extinct native quail, was once used as a leper colony by the early European settlers. Today the island is home to native birds and is a nice place to spend the day and have a picnic.

  There are various walks you can do from Lyttelton Port and around the Banks Peninsula.
