Mangonui Travel Guide

Mangonui accommodation, Mangonui activities and attractions, Mangonui maps, transportation to and around Mangonui - the ALL NEW Jasons Mangonui Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Mangonui.

Mangonui is known as the Gateway to the Far North. This attractive harbourside town sits at the south-east corner of Doubtless Bay. It has a long history, being one of the first villages in New Zealand to be settled by Maori or European. Timber milling made Mangonui the Far North's busiest town at the turn of the century but this role was lost when the kauri ran out and Kaitaia gained in importance.

Today, Mangonui is a charming holiday town that retains plenty of historic character. Attractions include the Mangonui Courthouse, a historic reserve, and the aquarium on the wharf. There are also plenty of craft outlets displaying the work of local artisans. To the north of the town are the beautiful beaches of Doubtless Bay and Karikari Peninsula. Deep sea fishing excursions and trips to Cape Reinga can also be taken from Mangonui.
