Things to Do in Motueka

• Abel Tasman National Park
  A coastal park with rocky headlands and remote forest-rimmed bays. Attractions include walking, kayaking, boat cruises, fur seals, penguins, dolphins and sea birds. Activities include scenic flights with Abel Tasman National Park Enterprises, horse treks with Abel Tasman Stables and kayaking tours with the Sea Kayak Company.
• Golden Bay
  This stretch of coast between Kahurangi and Abel Tasman National Park offers golden sand beaches, Waikoropupu Springs – New Zealand's largest freshwater springs – and Farewell Spit, with its century-old lighthouse. The spit is the South Island's most north-westerly point and a wildlife refuge for the godwits which nest here between September and March.
• Kahurangi National Park
  Covering 400,000ha of wilderness, Kahurangi is an ecological treasure with more than 100 bird species, 50% of all New Zealand's plant species and 80% of the country's alpine plants.
• Kaiteriteri Beach
  Located 13km from Motueka, this golden sand beach is popular with holidaymakers, offering swimming, waterskiing, yachting, sunbathing, fishing and picnic facilities. Withells Walk (45min) leads through native bush and affords lovely views over the bay.
• Saltwater Baths
  Historic baths on the waterfront which are still in use.
• Riwaka Beer Festival
  Held every January to mark the hop harvest.
• Motueka Walkway
  A recently developed walkway taking in Motueka's waterfront and key attractions.
• Somerset Farm Cottage, Mahana
  A restored cottage dating from 1858 at nearby Mahana.
• Ngarua Marble Caves
  Located 21 kilometres north-west of Motueka, these illuminated limestone caves contain carbon-dated Moa bones and delicate stalactites. Guided tours operate hourly from 10am-4pm.
