Mount Hutt is close by and is considered by some to be one of the best skifields in the Southern Hemisphere. During the off-season, the mountain is a great place to go for walks, and there are many different types of fauna to be found here. In fact, there are 130 species of alpine plants that can only be found on Mount Hutt. The various lakes and rivers in the area make for great fishing, swimming and boating spots. Lake Clearwater is just one of the nearby lakes and is the best for windsurfing. The holiday home population is constantly growing in Mt Somers, as people continue to discover what a marvellous place this is to relax and play in.
