• Taupiri Mountain
  Located 8km northeast of Ngaruawahia, the mountain was once a fortified pa and is a sacred burial ground for Waikato Maori. Kings Potatau, Tawhiao and Te Rata are buried here, as well as Princess Te Puea.
• Turangawaewae Marae
  The official residence of the Maori king, the marae is located on River Road, east of SH1.
• Hakarimata Reserve
  A bush-clad reserve on the slopes of the Hakarimata Range featuring native trees, including rimu and kauri. There are several well-marked walking tracks, including the 7hr Hakarimata Walkway, and a 3hr return walk from Brownlee Ave to Hakarimata Trig.
• Pukemokemoke Reserve
  A private bush reserve which boasts a fine collection of native ferns. A 20-minute climb provides good views over Mt Karioi and Mt Ruapehu.
• Nikau Cave
  West of Ngaruawahia at Tuakau, this limestone cave with glowworms is located on a private farm; the owners offer tours.
• Waingaro Hot Springs
  Four thermal mineral pools located at the town of Waingaro, featuring New Zealand's longest open hot water hydroslide. Located 23km west of Ngaruawahia.
