Ski & Board Turoa

Nestled above the town of
Ohakune, on the southern side of
Mount Ruapehu, Turoa ski area has something for everyone with good beginner facilities, great skiing for intermediates and some of New Zealand's best off trail advanced skiing and riding. Turoa also holds the title of Australasia's longest vertical drop and New Zealand's highest lift.
Facilities include the high-speed High Noon Express chairlift. The biggest in Australasia at 1.4km long, it whisks 3200 people an hour up the mountain. If snow conditions permit, skiers can also coast down Australasia’s longest vertical run – 722m. Turoa has a dedicated beginner area at Alpine Meadow, while strong skiers and boarders will enjoy a huge variety of terrain from open runs to gullies and cliffs. If you want to get off the groomers, Turoa has two lift-accessed off-piste areas.
The nearby resort of Ohakune, 6km away, offers a full range of accommodation and a vibrant apres-ski scene. Matai Shuttles runs a daily service between Ohakune and Turoa Ski Area, departing from Matai Lodge at 8.30am. When Turoa is closed, the service goes to
Whakapapa Ski Area. Your lift pass provides access to both ski areas. The access road to Turoa is fully sealed and a chain fitting service is available.
