Orewa is in the commercial heart of the
Hibiscus Coast and
Rodney District. It is a beachside resort and a popular holiday destination, but also has a sizable residential population. The beautiful beach extends along the length of Orewa town, providing a broad sandy promenade at low tide. Swimming, boating and fishing can all be enjoyed at Orewa. The lookout just to the north of Orewa gives a stunning view over the beach. Extensive grassy reserves and a children's playground border the beach.
Orewa is an excellent base from which to visit the many attractions of Rodney District. To the north of Orewa is
Waiwera with its thermal pools, gracious Wenderholm Regional Park and the historic village of
Puhoi. Just south of Orewa is
Whangaparaoa Peninsula, with its safe beaches, and Silverdale, a mecca for factory shopping.
