Otaki Travel Guide
Otaki accommodation, Otaki activities and attractions, Otaki maps, transportation to and around Otaki - the ALL NEW Jasons Otaki Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Otaki.
Flanked by hills on one side, and the ocean on the other, Otaki is one of
New Zealand's oldest urban townships and rich in Maori culture. The gateway to the
Kapiti Coast, Otaki is known for its warm climate and beautiful gardens, and for its historic Maori Racing Club, which is still going strong today. There are several heritage buildings here including St Mary's Pukekaraka Church, built in 1851, and Rangiatea Church, which dates from 1846. The church was begun by famous Maori chief Te Rauparaha, and rebuilt inĀ

1995 after a devastating fire. Heading inland, walkers will find excellent hiking and camping at Otaki Forks. Enjoy one of the lovely riverside picnic spots or tackle one of the challenging hikes into the rugged Tararua Ranges. Thrill-seekers can opt for a rafting or kayaking adventure along the Otaki River gorge. The town's beautiful surf beach is great for swimming, and is patrolled during the summer months.
