Known as the jewel of the
Bay of Islands, Paihia is the perfect base for your far North holiday experience.
Paihia is the foremost resort town in the Bay of Islands and the gateway to the Bay of Islands Maritime Park. The Maritime Park is one of New Zealand's most beautiful areas, renowned for its deep sea fishing and diving. A range of cruises leave from Paihia Wharf, taking in popular attractions such as Cape Brett and the Hole in the Rock. Bottlenose and common dolphins frequent the waters of the bay, and swimming with the dolphins is one of the bay's most popular activities.
Paihia has a long sandy beach and excellent visitor facilities, and there is a short history trail along the waterfront. Cruise boats, charters and fishing trips depart from Paihia Wharf. Nearby Waitangi Reserve is the site where New Zealand's founding political document was signed on 6 February 1840. The beautiful grounds overlook the bay, and a walking track passes through the mangrove forest to the cascading
Haruru Falls. Opua Forest, behind the town, offers a range of tracks for walks lasting from 10min to 3hrs.
