Palmerston North Sightseeing & Parks
Palmerston North and its environs are easily explored on foot. Further afield, along the Manawatu River and in the nearby Tararua Ranges, there are plenty of bushwalks and hiking options, including the spectacular Manawatu Gorge walk.

- City Heritage Trail
An inner-city trail taking in historic sites marked by distinctive teal and yellow signs.
- The Manawatu Gorge Walk
A 4.5 kilometre one-way tour between Ashhurst and Woodville.
- Esplanade Drive
A scenic drive which travels along the Manawatu River, fringed with cherry blossom trees, past the Peter Black Conservatory, an aviary, the Manawatu Golf Club and Centennial Lake.
Gardens & Parks
- The Square
The city's focal point is a 7 hectare area of lawns, trees, small lakes and fountains.
- The Victoria Esplanade
A 27 hectare park with flower displays, a national rose trial garden, natural bush, a children's adventure playground, conservatory, a miniature railway, picnic facilities and a number of walks. The park is also home to Victoria House, Palmerston North's original post office.
- Memorial Park
Developed from a former metal pit, it features a cycle track, athletic track, skating rink, children's play area and landscaped picnic area.
