Things to Do in Palmerston North

• Te Manawa Complex
  Within the complex, the Te Manawa Museum, Gallery and Science Centre feature hands-on science displays and a museum specialising in the history and Maori culture of the Manawatu region. The Manawatu Art Gallery has displays of local and international arts and crafts, with an emphasis on contemporary New Zealand art.
• The Square
  The heart of the city, with seven hectares of lawn, trees, lakes and gardens.
• Manawatu Gorge and River
  A massive ravine dividing the Ruahine and Tararua Ranges and extending some six kilometres. The Information Centre (52 The Square) has details of activities in the area, including horse trekking, bridge swinging, abseiling and rafting. Manawatu Jet Tours offers jetboating excursions on the Manawatu River.
• The New Zealand Rugby Museum
  Concentrating on New Zealand's national game and containing the country's largest collection of rugby memorabilia and records. Some 30 displays, an extensive library and recent videos are available.
• The Esplanade
  A lovely riverside park featuring a rose garden, children's adventure playground and a number of scenic walks. It is also home to the historic Victoria House, which was originally Palmerston North's post office.
• Walks
  Walks in the area include the ten kilometre Manawatu Riverside Walkway, which passes through The Esplanade, and the self-guided City Heritage Trail.
• Tararua Windfarm
  Located in the Tararua Ranges with the capacity to generate enough electricity for 15,000 homes.
