Te Puia
At the core of Te Puia is the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, set up by legislation in 1963 to maintain and preserve the customary art forms of Maori. Since then, Te Puia has nurtured and trained hundreds of artists in carving, weaving and other art forms.
Te Puia also offers the wonders of Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley including the world famous Pohutu geyser our foundation as New Zealand's most iconic tourism attraction. With this we incorporate the traditions of guiding and hospitality that New Zealand and international visitors have experienced for almost 120 years.
Te Puia offers visitors the opportunity to engage in a range of experiences including interpretive galleries with state of the art interactive media, and awe inspiring spaces rich in history and stories. Visitors also have the chance to come face to face with New Zealand s most well known bird, the kiwi.
