TEPUIA
Experience a personal encounter with our people, our culture and our land
Rising from the geothermal valley above mud pools and steam vents is Te Puia - the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute and home of the famous Pohutu geyser. Take a journey into the heart of Maori culture; share the stories, songs and hospitality of Te Whakarewarewa Valley and its people, or simply wander and discover the treasures of this special place.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the award winning interactive galleries - Nga Waru Pu Manawa and Te Whare Tapere - and see artists at work in the renowned carving and weaving schools.
Te Po
Te Po is Te Puia’s new evening cultural experience - a feast of cultural storytelling, entertainment and Maori kai (indigenous food). After a traditional powhiri (welcome) and cultural performance, visitors can interact with Maori hosts sharing the disciplines of Maori weaponry, song and taonga puoro (instrument playing). The experience includes an authentic hangi feast plus other indigenous delicacies, and to round off the evening visitors view the famous Pohutu geyser by night.
Daily from 6.15pm-9.30pm, adult $95; child $47.50, family pass available.
Te Po Combo: adult $130, child $65, family pass available.
