Southern South Island Itinerary
We have put together a suggested itinerary which takes in the main attractions in the Southern South Island area.
Day 1 - Queenstown
- Spend the day exploring Queenstown making the most of its adventure sports including bungy jumping; white water rafting; jetboating; ballooning or cruising on Lake Wakatipu.
- Shops open late here so there's also a chance for retail therapy after a day's activity.
- Dine aboard the TSS Earnslaw as it plies the waters across Lake Wakatipu before heading out to one of the town's pubs or nightclubs.

Day 2 - Queenstown
Day 3 - Milford Sound - Te Anau

Day 6 - Catlins Coast - Dunedin
Day 7 - Dunedin
- Take the historic Taieri Gorge Railway that explores the city's hinterland and its gold mining history. Note the splendid architecture of the Dunedin Railway Station where the trip departs from.
- Spend the rest of the day exploring the city's attractions, including its historic buildings, the Otago Settlers Museum, or perhaps Cadbury World.
- Dine and stay overnight in Dunedin.

Day 8 - Taiaroa Head - Dunedin
- Drive to Taiaroa Head, home to the Royal Albatross Colony & Centre which has the world’s only mainland albatross colony. Guided tours include a presentation of an albatross' life and a visit to a nature reserve viewing area.
Visit historic Larnach Castle.
- Return to Dunedin to overnight.
