The charming coastal community of Tairua is situated near the mouth of Tairua Harbour on the east coast of the
Coromandel Peninsula. Its name translates as 'two tides'. There is excellent sea fishing from Tairua and launches are readily available for charter. Tairua town has a beautiful surf beach as well as sheltered estuary beaches.
Pauanui holiday resort is just across the harbour and can be reached by passenger ferry. Activities in the area include walking, game fishing, horse trekking and kayaking. Kayakers can paddle up Duck Creek and through wetlands to the Tairua River.
