Tokaanu sits at the southern end of
Lake Taupo. A 15-minute boardwalk leads around the Tokaanu Thermal Park, with its hot springs and bubbling mud pools. The park also features the Tokaanu Thermal Pools - a must for tired muscles after a day hiking or skiing in
Tongariro National Park.
Visitors to Tokaanu also come for the excellent trout fishing in Lake Taupo and the Tongariro River. Whitewater rafting, mountain biking, and eco tours of the lakeside wetlands are also available.
Turangi, five kilometres west of Tokaanu, is a popular trout fishing centre.
