Things to Do in Tokaanu

• Tokaanu Thermal Pools
  Located on Mangaroa Road and open daily, the complex offers an open-air public pool, a sauna and hotter, partially enclosed private pools.
• Tongariro National Park
  This dual World Heritage-listed park contains some of the North Island's finest walks, as well as the winter ski areas of Mount Ruapehu. The park is famous for its beautiful sub-alpine scenery which includes crystal clear lakes and streams, rainforest, steaming fumaroles and tussock plains.
• Walks
  Walks in the region include the three-hour return Tongariro River Walkway, Tongariro River Loop Track (one hour) and the short (15 minutes) Hinemihi's Track, near the top of the Te Ponanga Saddle.
• Lake Rotopounamu
  This beautiful secluded lake is set in podocarp forest on the western side of Mount Pihanga, south of Tokaanu. The lake supports a rich variety of birdlife. A twenty-minute walk leads to the lake, and a longer ninety-minute walk leads around it.
• Lake Rotoaira
  South of Tokaanu, the lake has excavations of a pre-European Maori village site on its shores.
• Tokaanu Power Station
  On SH47, 2km east of the town, the station offers free guided tours. These can be booked at the Visitor Centre.
